Multiple emergency crews responded to an apartment deck fire in Pella late Sunday night.

At 11:28 p.m., Pella Fire, Police, and Ambulance responded to visible flames and smoke coming from a patio on the second floor from the Shady Creek Apartments on East Jefferson Street.

Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom says the east railing on the deck was damaged, and firefighters needed to remove siding on the adjacent pillar, as high temperature readings prompted them to use additional water until it was deemed safe.

The resident of the apartment was evaluated by Pella Regional Health Center, but was released on scene. Nearby neighbors were able to return to their apartments as well.
