The Knoxville Police Department is hosting its fifth annual Helmets & Hotdogs event today. The event normally takes place at the end of the school year, but was delayed due to COVID-19. School Resource Officer Kyle Keller with the department says that this year’s event will look different than in years past.
“This year’s event is going to be more about the safety part. We still want kids to have helmets even though there’s only a couple more months of good bike riding weather left. Hopefully the kids can still wear the helmets in the springtime. If they can’t we’re hoping we can still do an event the last day of school for the 2020-2021 year.”
The event runs from 12:15-1:30 p.m., at the High School Parking lot and is intended for students in Pre-K through 5th Grade. Parents are asked to measure the circumference of their child’s head to speed up the process.
