After the American Rivers Conference announced the postponement of several fall sports, the 2020 Central football season ended before it got started. It’s now the second college sports season that has been affected by COVID-19 mitigation strategies. Head Coach Jeff McMartin knows his team is not alone in their challenges, and hopes that the sports still taking place this fall will be a step toward normalcy.
“It’s obviously a bummer, and it’s something that none of us wanted or like. But we’re not alone, this is the second semester now, we’ve seen this with spring sports, and it was hard on those guys. For soccer, volleyball and us, we’re going to go through similar challenges and emotions. But there’s also hope that we have some sports played this fall, and we’re obviously very hopeful that’s going to go well for them, and hopefully that’ll be one good move towards getting us all back competing again.”
The conference will attempt to play football, volleyball and soccer in the spring. Cross country, golf and tennis will still be played this fall.
