The Pella City Council will hold a public hearing to approve all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to construct a fiber optic network to connect Pella Fiber to a Point of Presence site at UnityPoint Health in Grinnell at their meeting this evening.

If approved, the contract would move ahead with the key move aiming to connect City of Pella residents and businesses to a gigabit internet network, which would cost the city an estimated $1.5 million, according to engineer NewCom Technologies.

Council will also hold a public hearing to grant South Main, LLC for a perpetual easement for building encroachment. Wehn Building One of the South Main development was constructed near the corner of Independence Street and Main Street, it was built too far to the north, encroaching into the public right-of-way by approximately nine inches. As a result, the applicant is requesting a one-foot deep perpetual easement, with the developer paying for the legal fees.

A proclamation will be made to set the date for Beggar’s Night in Pella, and a resolution will be considered for a construction change order of approximately $50,000 for improvements to the City of Pella’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The Pella City Council meeting begins at 7:00 this evening in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and can also be viewed electronically:
