So many changes will be made during the 2020-21 academic year, but some might actually be for the better.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has decided that all schools will make the football playoffs this season. That way any teams whose seasons get derailed due to COVID-19 will have little to worry about should a game or two get cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Pleasantville Trojans are very much in favor of this decision. Head Coach Mack Jorth describes his feelings on the topic.

“I think it’s a fantastic idea. It’s pretty good foresight by the state to think about the COVID and how it could affect you. With the RPI system, that would have just devastated any team that got struck by the disease. There’s no way they’d have the playoffs, so I really like it. I hope we have a good experience with it. I think it’s a really good idea. Interesting to see how it develops.”

Pleasantville Activities Director Joel Allman offered similar favor towards the ruling, adding that if the Trojans should have an issue causing a delay in their schedule, they are grateful that they will still have the ability to advance in the playoffs.

Pleasantville kicks off their football season at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont on Friday, August 28th. Hear select football games from the Trojans this fall on the KNIA3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com.
