One key to Knoxville’s success on the football field last season was the defense. The Panthers from 2018 to 2019 allowed nearly 12 fewer points per game and allowed over 300 fewer yards from one season to the other. One key to that defensive improvement was Keegan Cox, who’s school record eight interceptions stopped a lot of drives. Coach Eric Kellar tells KRLS Sports, Cox and the rest of the defensive backfield are ready to pick up where they left off from last season.

Kellar:
“It’s nice to have him back there, we have some spots that are very inexperienced. When we get Kieren back we’ll have Mike and Keegan back where they were last year.”

As a team the Panther defense forced 22 total turnovers with 15 interceptions and seven fumble recoveries. The defense also made quarterbacks run for their lives at times gathering up a total of 21 sacks and 53 tackles for loss. Knoxville will open its season on August 28th at Fairfield.
