Webb Shadle Memorial Library in Pleasantville has received a $2,500 donation from the America’s Farmers Grow Communities initiative. Grow Communities is a program in which farmers can enroll for a chance to help a local nonprofit organization, sponsored by Bayer. Library Director JoEllen Glick says that local farmer Sue Phillips nominated the library for the award, and it came as a complete surprise.

“It was a big surprise, because Sue Phillips, a local farmer, she must have applied for us to receive this, and they selected us out of I don’t know how many. They just came in, said congratulations, and it was just a very happy surprise. We didn’t know anything about it until we received it.”

Glick adds that the library plans to use the funds to help purchase new carpet.
