Several Indianola fall sports teams will begin their seasons this week, kickstarting the 2020-21 school year. The Indianola boys golf squad will have the first competition of the year for the Indians, as they boys travel to Briarwood Country Club in Ankeny today for a seven school meet. The Indians girls cross country squad makes the trip to the DMACC campus for a meet hosted by Ankeny Centennial tomorrow, and the Indianola volleyball team will start competition at Southeast Polk Thursday along with Des Moines Lincoln and Norwalk. Head coach Kent Halstead tells KNIA Sports he wants his team to work hard and rise to the occasion.
“We’ve either won outright or shared the last three conference titles, that’s always one of our goals. But I would say a goal of ours is to be one of the best teams in the state. That doesn’t mean our record is going to be perfect, but I hope we compete, and compete against 5A teams and in our conference, and hopefully that will help us in October. I know we are going to get pushed, and that is what I’m looking forward to.”
The week will end with the Indians football team beginning their season at home against Dowling Catholic.
