The Knoxville School District has resumed classes on one of the hottest weeks of 2020 so far. Early dismissals due to heat are now a thing of the past, as all buildings in the district are now equipped with air conditioning. Superintendent Cassi Pearson says that she and school staff are grateful for the community support in passing the bond which allowed for their installation.
“On March 3rd, they did approve our bond, which will include a new middle school building, but will also include getting some individual air conditioning units both at Northstar and at the middle school. So this fall, for the first time ever, Knoxville Schools will not have to release during hot weather streaks because our buildings are too hot. All of our classrooms have air conditioning, so we’ll be able to stay in session, kids can keep learning. We’re very excited about that, and we’re very grateful that our community passed the bond that made that possible.”
Pearson also said that she’s excited that students will be able to stay in school after months away without disruptions due to heat.
