Relief from a week of hot weather is on the way, but when cooler air arrives, so may intense thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued an enhanced risk for severe weather for most of the eastern half of Iowa on Friday, mainly in the late afternoon and evening hours. The primary risks will be damaging winds and large hail, and could impact several Iowa high school football games.
That cold front is expected to provide significant relief from a week of hot weather, with more seasonally average temperatures expected this weekend with afternoon highs in the low to mid 80s, and periodic chances of storms and highs around 80 expected early next week.
