Knoxville Schools Superintendent Cassi Pearson has released protocols to follow in the event of a school employee being exposed to COVID-19. According to the district’s protocol, employees who were exposed to someone who has tested positive and does not show symptoms may be required to continue working while following safety procedures. This is in response to new guidance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which deems nearly all school employees as essential.
Pearson says that safety procedures have been well-followed, and is proud of all the staff and students for their efforts so far.
“Our staff have really worked hard, great teamwork. We have given those students who have chosen the virtual option up and running, and things have went well. I’m sure there’s been a few bumps for a few people, but overall, it went much better than anticipated, we’ve done so much planning and preparation. It’s kind of a relief to get to this point and know that it was all worthwhile.”
