While the county has crossed the 15% positive testing rate threshold, in order to apply for online education school districts also need at least 10 percent absenteeism. Pella Schools Superintendent Greg Ebeling says over the first week of in-person classes, the district is hovering between 1 to 2 percent in terms of students missing classes, which isn’t far removed from a typical year. Ebeling says the district is monitoring each building for student and staff absences related to potential COVID-19 cases, and have quarantine protocols in place to try and mitigate potential spread.
