pleasantville-3

The Pleasantville Trojans hit the road and came up with a strong outing, defeating the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets 34-12 Friday night to open up the 2020 season.

It was all about spreading the wealth for head coach Mack Jorth’s squad as all five of their touchdowns came from five different players. Isaac Mann, Blayton Nilles and Ben Wicks caught theirs from quarterback Caylor Clark, who added one more on the ground alongside Jake DeJoode.

Beyond the players in the endzone, Jorth took out his starters in the 3rd quarter and had his young reserve players have their opportunity to shine. This came after their opening possession of the 2nd half, giving them a 34-6 lead. EBF would add another score late after opening the scoring themselves.

EBF did give some unusual looks Pleasantville had not practiced against, such as a “double wing” offense featuring formations unfamiliar to the Trojans. After some adjustments early on, Pleasantville figured it out and wound up with a +2 turnover margin.

Jorth was especially proud of his team’s physicality and praised his offensive line’s performance as they served as the heartbeat for the Trojans’ run centric offense.

Pleasantville hits the road again next week against the Lynnville-Sully Hawks. Live coverage can be heard on the KNIA3 stream at kniakrls.com and on the free KNIA3 mobile app.
