The deadline to pay the first installment of Marion County property taxes is Tuesday, September 1st. Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette says that the deadline can be confusing, as payments do not become delinquent until October 1st.
“Property tax statements were sent out on August 14th. They are actually due September 1st. That deadline is a little bit confusing because they’re not actually delinquent until October 1st. So that means you have the entire month of September to pay. Any payments that are sent to us through the mail must be postmarked by September 30th.”
Due to the courthouse’s temporary location at East Elementary School in Knoxville, Bigaouette says that paying in person is not recommended. Residents are encouraged to pay via mail, online, or over the phone via credit card.
