pleasantville-3

Classes at Pleasantville High School are underway, and as September approaches, the first full week of school does as well. Athletics have already gotten a head start. To recap last week’s results, which can be found in greater detail at kniakrls.com:

The Trojan Boys and Girls cross country teams hit the road, almost literally, as they partook in the Early Bird meet at Knoxville. The girls finished fourth as a team out of five schools, while the boys did not place due to an incomplete team. Head coach Aaron Fichter wished his squad had since he had two runners, Devon Luing and Jenkin Fulmer, finish in the top six.

Head volleyball coach Joel Allman preaches consistency following his team’s 0-2 start after losses to Earlham and Des Moines Christian. The Trojans failed to win a single set in either match.

Mack Jorth’s football team traveled to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont for a date with the Rockets to open up the 2020 campaign. The home team scored the first and last touchdowns of the game, but Pleasantville’s balanced attack was too much as they glided to a 34-12 win, as 5 Trojans found the end zone. Pleasantville now leads the all-time series with EBF, 7-6, after winning six of the last seven, outscoring the Rockets 210-50 with two shutouts.

Coming up this week on the Trojans’ varsity calendar, the volleyball team has a chance to get back to .500 on Tuesday as they host Madrid and Grand View Christian in a triangular event. The cross country squad travels to Wayne as they compete in their second meet of the season. To round out the week, Pleasantville football must be the visitors for the second game in a row as they go for a 2-0 start against the Hawks of Lynnville-Sully.
