Indianola was recently designated as an Iowa Great Place by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, after a lengthy application process administered by Indianola Hometown Pride after direction from the Indianola City Council. Lorin Ditzler with Hometown Pride tells KNIA News it was a collaborative effort.

“We are a community with a lot of great things going on and a lot of great leadership in many different areas of the community. I wish I could name every person who contributed to this, but that would end up being probably 40 people that really helped out with this. It was really a collaborative effort.”

The designation allows Indianola to apply for Iowa Great Places funding, which averages over $200,000, and provides training and technical assistance, and grants the use of “Iowa Great Places” branding for the community.
