Two varsity sports teams from PCM will be in action today. The cross country team gets its season underway with both the boys and girls competing at Williamsburg. The Mustangs will essentially be picking up where they left off at the site of last year’s state qualifying meet. Head Coach Eric Karr says that this season especially, every meet will be very important to his teams’ success.
“I think we really need to treat each meet as ‘This is a very important meet.’ And we don’t have to do that in other seasons. So I think there will be a little added stress in that aspect. Every season before this it’s just ‘Hey, let’s improve.’ And this year it might be ‘Well, this might be what gets us into our qualifying spot.’ You just don’t know.”
Varsity action gets underway at 4:30 p.m. at the Williamsburg Recreation Center.
Meanwhile the volleyball team will open the home season with a non-conference match against 5A opponent Des Moines North. The teams have met every season since 2017, with PCM winning each match. The Mustangs enter 4-5 overall while the Polar Bears are 0-1. First serve of the varsity match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at PCM High School in Monroe.
