The City of Indianola is moving forward with the downtown streetscape project, which will include changing the traffic on the square and surrounding areas from one-way to two-way, as well as providing a bike lane on Buxton St. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the bike lanes will connect several trails in the area.
“This is working off of a trail plan that the city has already had in place. Doing the conversion on the square from one-way to two-way traffic, we wouldn’t need two bike lanes, previously we’ve had one on both Howard and Buxton, you don’t need to have the two separate lanes we can just have the one.”
Waller also said with the shared bike lanes on one street with two-way traffic, it will save the city approximately $4,000 per year.
