indianola-3

A chance for one team to get back to .500 on the season is on the line tonight in Norwalk, as two teams that are 0-1 will face off this evening as the Indians travel to take on the Warriors. Despite their week one loss, the Indians defense played well against #2 WDM Dowling, and head coach Eric Kluver said they will need that side of the ball to play well again.

“One stat that really stood out, Dowling was 1 of 13 on third down. Typically if you can hold a team to that you can win a football game. Our guys just kept fighting, and our coaching staff does a great job making sure those guys are ready.”

The Warriors struggled to keep up with a physical Carlisle squad in their opening contest, and head coach Paul Patterson said they will need to get off to a better start offensively.

“Early on, we are going to try and establish the run. If that doesn’t work, then we need to put the ball in the quarterback’s hands and have him get it to our playmakers out on the edge.”

The game can be heard live on 94.3, with Andrew Swadner, Rick Wilson, and Jon Mohwinkle on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30, with kickoff set for 7pm.

The Indianola volleyball squad fell to the J-Hawks of Urbandale in three close sets Thursday. The Indians fell in set one 18-25, set two 20-25, and 19-25 in set three to a J-Hawks team that has only dropped one match so far this season. The Indians fall to 3-4 on the season, and they will next play Pella Christian on their home court Tuesday.

The Indianola High School Girls Swim Team swam against Grinnell and Newton Thursday at the Indianola YMCA, taking down Grinnell 79-22 but falling to Newton 53-48. Jorja Culver won the 200 free, Ali Borgmeyer won the 500 free, Katie Thompson won the 100 Breaststroke, and Kodi Cram was a double winner in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. The Indians will next compete Thursday against Perry at the YMCA.
