Local emergency crews spent the better part of their Labor Day afternoon fighting a house fire west of Pella. After 1 p.m., multiple responders from Pella Rural Fire, Pella Ambulance, and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home fully engulfed in flames and black smoke, and spent several hours fighting flames. Monroe Fire also assisted. The house is located at 584 180th Ave, just south of Highway 163 west of Pella, and suffered considerable damage, and was a total loss. All who were inside at the time were able to get out, and no injuries were reported. Marion County Real Estate records indicate the deed holders are Evert J. and Barbara J. Kroes.

Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom was thankful for the large response and the other agencies that came to help on a holiday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
