More needed rain and record-breaking cold impacted south central Iowa Wednesday. For the second day in a row, the record coldest “high” was broken, previously 57 in 1924, as the air only got to 54 degrees in the afternoon. Since Monday, most local communities, including Pella, Knoxville, and Indianola, received approximately 1 ½” of precipitation, which should provide needed relief to ongoing drought conditions. According to the National Weather Service, slightly warmer air will continue, and periodic rain showers are in the forecast through Saturday evening, with an additional 1-2 inches possible. Rain is also in the forecast throughout most games taking place for Football Friday Night as well. Temperatures will rebound this weekend, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s by Saturday and much drier, comfortable conditions expected early next week.
