Most of Warren and Marion Counties are still classified in a moderate drought according to the US Drought Monitor, however last week’s rainfall totals may change that classification in the near future. According to the National Weather Service Weekly Precipitation Totals:
Pella – 3.32″
Lake Red Rock – 3.55″
Knoxville – 3.13″
Indianola – 2.98″
South River near Ackworth – 2.73″
Des Moines River near Swan – 3″
Des Moines River near Tracy – 2.81″
Cedar Creek near Bussey – 2.84″
The precipitation ranging from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 inches this week should mitigate and relieve the moderate to severe drought conditions reported across central Iowa and in most of the state.
The brunt of rainfall is over after a dreary week, and much more seasonable and comfortable conditions are in the forecast, as daytime highs reach the mid-70s today and hover around 80 degrees all this week, with sunny skies in the forecast over the next week.
