In a non-conference match that had a playoff feel, the No. 12 in 4A Pella volleyball team hung tough with No. 9 Urbandale but ultimately fell in five Thursday night (12-25, 25-21, 13-25, 25-22, 15-12).
The Lady Dutch came from behind in a deep deficit in the fourth set and stayed within three points after falling behind early in the final set, but they could not find the plays they needed to topple a ranked team on the road.
Bailey Van Voorst finished with 22 kills, Ella Corbin had 13 kills and one service ace, Payton Turner was 16 of 17 from the service line with two aces, and setter Anna Vander Waal tallied 47 assists.
Pella falls to 8-3 overall and is next in action at the Ballard tournament Saturday.
The Eagles were also in Urbandale for the Des Moines Christian tournament, as Pella Christian was able to knock off the No. 15 ranked Lions 2-1 (20-22, 21-17, 15-10), as well as sweep conference foes Grinnell (21-12, 21-9) and Newton. Van Meter toppled Pella Christian 2-1 (16-21, 23-21, 12-15).
Sarah Gritters racked up 35 kills and six service aces, Avey Amelse had 31 kills and eight aces, Ellie Brouwer had seven aces, and Trinity Vos tallied 12 blocks over the four tournament matches.
Pella Christian is at 8-6 and off until they head to Dallas Center-Grimes for conference competition Tuesday.
