Karleigh Schilling and Alyssa Lewton and the No. 3 tandem of Katie Larson and Macy Scharff won 8-0. At No. 2, Bronwyn Metcalf and Maddie Hartley were victorious 8-1. Head Coach Ryun Ferrell says that it was a great way to get the season underway on a beautiful afternoon for tennis.

“It’s the first day, haven’t played a match in a little over half a year. A lof of anxious nerves, once we got over that, we felt good, looked pretty good. It was Dubuque’s fourth match so they were a little more relaxed and laid back than we were. But by the end, we started doing what we can do, which is get the ball back and make it physical. A nice day overall, just glad we got to be out here.”

At the top of the singles lineup, Schilling played the tightest match in a 7-5, 6-3 win. Metcalf won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 while Hartley, Sarah Schirm and Laurynn Mize recorded 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, respectively.

Central moves to 1-0 on the season, and is back in action Saturday at Simpson.
