Dry conditions are expected to remain in place for the rest of September and in the long term, according to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction center.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan says dry and warmer than average conditions will persist in the near term for the remainder of the month.

However, he says long-term the trend could be toward a cooler than average winter, as La Nina conditions are expected to settle into the Pacific. He also expects drought conditions to persist across the state, especially in western Iowa, with little to no rain expected well into October. Abnormally dry conditions remain in place in Marion and Warren Counties and most of south central Iowa, with Moderate Drought in portions of Polk and Jasper Counties.

According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs will hover around 80 degrees and overnight lows in the mid 50s with sunny skies and no rainfall in the forecast. Stay tuned to 92.1 KRLS for the latest weather information.
