The Knoxville Police Department has announced that it is raising funds for a department canine. Chief Aaron Fuller says that this dog is not a cheap investment, and that the funds will cover a lot of purposes.
“We are going to start fundraising for a canine. We’re raising $25,000. That will get us a dog that’s fully trained; it’s going to be a dual-purpose dog. That’s going to get an officer either four or five weeks of training. That’s going to make sure that the dog has appropriate living quarters, that the dog has food, that the dog has access to veterinary care, among other things. After a lot of discussion, we decided that $25,000 was the appropriate amount, and that all of that money will go towards the police canine.”
This canine will be used for a variety of purposes, including detainment, searches, and more. The department’s previous dog, Knox, was in service from 2009 to 2015. Information on how to donate can be found here.
