The Pleasantville Trojans are off to their best start in three years and that continued tonight following a 46-6 win at Colfax-Mingo Friday night.
It didn’t take long for Pleasantville to get going. Senior quarterback Caylor Clark scored a touchdown on the second play for his team, going 83 yards to the house. Clark wound up with another score on the ground and two more in the air, which were caught by Ben Wicks and Colby Sandholdt. Three running backs reached the end zone as well. Isaac Mann scored in the first quarter but left with an injury and did not return. Fullback Jake DeJoode scored on defense as well after picking up a Tigerhawk fumble and going around 40 yards to the end zone. Jacob Heimstra, who was in the backfield for the injured Mann, scored for the second time this year.
Head coach Mack Jorth pulled his starters at halftime, opting to get his young players some more reps. Despite what seems like domination all around, it wasn’t perfect for Pleasantville. Clark picked up a bad snap resulting in a lost fumble and Sandholdt missed three of his seven extra points to go along with some bad penalties. Jorth recognizes this but knows you can’t be too angry following a win like this.
“I tell you what, at times it really felt rough to be honest, but it’s hard to argue with 46 points. I think we did a lot of really nice things but I still think there’s some stuff we’re just a little too sloppy on we got to clean up a little bit. Some of that’s my fault. Some of that’s just trying not to make little mistakes. Not making a foolish little hold here or penalty there. Overall though, you have to be happy with the level of play that we had.”
