The Knoxville Police Department has announced position changes. The department will eliminate a lieutenant’s position, which opened when Chief Aaron Fuller took over as Chief. Two sergeant positions will be created from that opening. He says that all personnel changes will be handled internally, and will allow for growth within the department.

“We’re not hiring anybody outside the department, we’re not laying off anybody. Everything is going to be done from an internal standpoint. Essentially what that does is allow an officer who may want to become a lieutenant someday, or may want to progress in their career to become a chief someday to get some supervisory experience. We’re also going to create an investigator position and take that duty away from a lieutenant so a lieutenant can focus more on the organizational side of the police department. Again, that’s going to give an officer an opportunity to learn some new skills and take their career to new levels.”

A complete interview about the position changes, as well as the department’s canine fundraiser can be heard on Monday’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
