While Trojan volleyball was idle last week, cross country and football were in action with some impressive results.

Head coach Aaron Fichter and his runners headed to Eddyville Tuesday and the girls squad saw the best team finish of the year, tying for third place. Hailee McCormick landed another top ten finish and Emmie Kenyon wound up with a solid 27th place finish. For the boys, Devon Luing was the only scoring runner of note, finishing 11th. He’s often in the top five, but has been dealing with an injury and coach Fichter believes he’ll be back to full strength for his next meet. The boys as a whole finished last among the nine scored teams.

The football team went into Colfax-Mingo undefeated and left without a blemish to their record after a 46-6 win over the Tigerhawks. Six different Trojans found the endzone, a season high. Senior quarterback Caylor Clark finished with four total touchdowns, including an 83 yard run on the second play of the team’s opening drive. Their next drive started with a catch and run by Ben Wicks who was wide open and went 50 yards untouched. Running back Isaac Mann was injured in the first half and needed assistance from two athletic trainers to get off the field. He would not return.

This coming week, volleyball makes their long awaited return at Van Meter on Tuesday. Cross country heads to Red Haw State Park just outside of Chariton on Thursday. Finally, the undefeated football team heads to Pella Christian for an absolute must watch matchup against the Eagles for what could be for the district title.
