pleasantville-3

The long awaited return of Trojan volleyball didn’t go as planned as they fell on the road to Van Meter 3-1 (25-13, 25-17, 21-25, 25-9). This makes them fall to .500 on the year with a 6-6 record.

It wasn’t the prettiest of matches by any means, but it does have the distinction of being the first game of the year the girls managed to win a set after trailing. Perhaps more notably was the growth on display from Amber McKinney, who displayed a large improvement in her hitting, while Olivia Anthony had a great defensive outing.

Head Coach Joel Allman, as eager as anyone to get back to work after ten days off, was elated that his girls pulled through and managed to steal a set against a rock solid Van Meter program.

“With us going down 2-0, I was happy that we battled back and took the third set. I think in the past against good teams, we’ve gone down 2-0 and we haven’t battled the third set and it ends up being a three set match. I was really pleased we were able to come out and we played really well that third set. That was a nice moment.”

It’ll be another long wait for the Trojan’s next outing, which is on Monday in a rescheduled triangular at Chariton. Next week, Pleasantville will play in a total of seven games. Make sure to check back right here at kniakrls.com for coverage on all of those matchups.
