The PCM Mustangs are proving why they are the top team in Class 2A. After losing star running back Aiden Anderson for the year due to injury last week, PCM didn’t lose a step as they beat the Albia Blue Demons 57-0 on Senior Night.
It’s the fourth consecutive shutout for the Mustangs, outscoring the competition 254-0. In total, they hold a socing advantage of 340-25 through six games in 2020.
The player of the game was Sophomore quarterback Augie Stock, who was responsible for five total touchdowns. He started with touchdown passes to Senior receivers Gatlin Boell and Carson Duinink. After that, he turned a bad snap and broken play into a 40 yard touchdown run. After a Sage Burns QB sneak, Stock had another TD pass to Boell.
Right before halftime, PCM had what was perhaps their best play of the year. Stock rolled out of the pocket to his right, and slinged the ball 20 yards downfield to Landon Fenton. Fenton then ran down the sideline until a Blue Demon defender was draped all over him. Fenton carried the guy for ten yards, but knew he was going to get tackled at the five. He then pitched a lateral to fellow wide receiver Brayden Berger who then walked in for a touchdown. It was not designed that way, head coach Greg Bonnett actually wasn’t too pleased with the decision by Fenton, but the hook-and-ladder type play was one of the best looking plays anyone will have in 2020.
Stock had one of the best games of his career, and coach Bonnett knows it and praised his young quarterback, the future of this great PCM program.
“I thought [Augie Stock] looked really good tonight. I think he was taking off really fast tonight. I just feel like even when he was escaping on the busted plays and things like that, he looked like he was starting to hit another gear I haven’t seen out of him before where he was taking off and being quick with that.”
PCM heads to Clarke next week looking to finish with a perfect regular season. You can hear live coverage next Friday on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
