It was an up-and-down day at the Des Moines Christian tournament Saturday for the Pella volleyball team. The Lady Dutch fell to No. 1 in 4A Lewis Central 2-0 (16-21, 14-21) and No. 11 in 5A Johnston 2-0 (15-21, 18-21), won 2-1 against No. 12 in 5A Waukee 2-1 (15-21, 21-17, 15-13), and split in two matches with Des Moines Christian, both of which were sweeps (21-12, 21-14) (14-21, 12-21). The Lady Dutch move to 13-10 overall and next head to Grinnell Tuesday.
Pella Christian was missing a few starters and were unable to find victory at the Greene County tournament Saturday. The Eagles were swept by Lewis Central (12-25, 20-25), Carroll (18-25, 19-25), and South Hardin (22-25, 15-25). Avey Amelse had 21 kills in the tournament and Sarah Gritters had 19. Pella Christian falls to 13-10, which ends a five game winning streak. Pella Christian makes the short trek down Highway 163 to take on Oskaloosa Tuesday.
