The Pella Christian football team has eyes on at least taking a portion of the Class 1A District 7 crown tonight when they finish the season at Eagle Lane against Colfax-Mingo.
The 3-3 Eagles are 3-1 in district competition, coming off of a 34-27 thrilling win over Pleasantville, while the Tigerhawks are trying to find anything positive to latch on to at 0-6 overall.
Pella Christian Head Coach Rich Kacmarynski says the team can’t take anything for granted, and have to play well early and keep improving in key areas to be ready for the impending playoffs.
The Eagles defense will be aiming to take advantage of a Colfax-Mingo offensive line that’s given up 15 sacks and has only scored nine offensive touchdowns on the season. Luke Mulder stands at 6 ½ sacks — ½ a sack shy of the school record held by Caleb Morgan in 2011.
A Pella Christian win means the Eagles could finish as co-champions with Mount Ayr and Pleasantville if both teams win — however, if the Trojans lose, the Eagles would lose any head-to-head tiebreaker with the Raiders. However, victory likely means at least one more home game to start the postseason and even a possible bye in round one of the playoffs next Friday, depending on how the brackets are set.
