The Little Hawkeye Conference came together for the annual conference cross country meet to kick off the 2020 fall postseason.
Indianola Sophomore Emily Naughton was the conference girls champion, leading the No. 13 in 4A Indians to a 2nd place team finish just behind No. 3 in 3A Dallas Center-Grimes. Naughton, ranked 22nd individually in 4A, paced the girls field with a time of 18:42.8. Fellow 4A ranked Indianola runner Joe Werling finished 4th (19:29.2), and freshman Gracie Foster placed 5th (19:33.7).
The Lady Dutch were 4th in the girls field with 99 points. The freshmen duo of Jacie Trine and Autumn Blink led Pella, in 14th (20:31.7) and 17th (20:41.4) respectively.
Pella Christian did not field a full girls team, but freshman Jaclyn Holmes finished 21st (21:15.8), sandwiched between Pella seniors Abigail Cutler (20th – 21:08) and Ashley Blommers (22nd – 21:23.7).
Norwalk won the Little Hawkeye Conference boys cross country race with 36 points at their home course, as the No. 9 in Class 4A Warriors edged the No. 1 in 3A Dallas Center-Grimes boys at 47 points.
No. 3 in Class 3A Pella placed 3rd, at 71 team points. Chase Lauman led the Dutch with an 8th place finish at 16:33.2, followed closely by Tony Schmitz in 9th (16:36.3) and Josiah Wittenberg in 13th (16:48.5).
Indianola’s boys placed 4th with a team score of 106. Junior Logan Hoger placed 6th individually, leading the Indians at 16:26.4, with fellow Junior Curtis Johnson in 14th (16:53.3) and Sophomore Hunter Seifrig finishing 26th (17:51.4).
Pella Christian rounded out the boys field in 8th place. Kaden Van Wyngarden led the Eagles with a 30th place finish in the loaded field (18:13.2), followed by Brayton Juffer in 33rd (18:24.8), and Ryan Natelborg in 40th (18:54).
Pella, Pella Christian, and Indianola now await their official state qualifying meet destinations, which will be released sometime later this week.
