The Pella School Board met with local legislators as part of an annual round table session Monday.
For just over an hour, Representative Dustin Hite, State Senators Amy Sinclair and Ken Rozenboom, and challenger for Rozenboom’s seat Lance Roorda answered questions from the board on topics related to education. The current legislators highlighted accomplishments from the past two-year session, while also discussing the uncertainty that lies ahead in the 2021 session, not only with the upcoming election, but due to anticipated impacts as it relates to COVID-19 and the budget. Roorda joined the other representatives in highlighting their own education priorities and topics for concern, which included workforce retention, funding inequities between districts, helping teachers with behavioral issues in classrooms, and mental health.
