The Indianola City Council approved items regarding the Downtown Streetscape Project earlier this month, giving the go-ahead for city staff to move forward with plans to improve the downtown square and surrounding area. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News part of that process will be looking at ways to improve the traffic flow on and around the square, including acquiring a grant to look at the stoplight at the intersection of 2nd Ave and Buxton near the post office.

“That traffic signal is one of the more obsolete in our traffic signal network. So one of the actions taken by the council was to apply for a grant with the Iowa Department of Transportation to help perform an engineering study that has to take place if we are to take action on the stoplight.”

The study is ongoing, and city staff has recently met with the City’s engineers for the Square Streetscape project Bolton and Menk to discuss various aspects of the project including additional grant opportunities, trees, as well as other landscaping and plantings.
