Two Marion County teams clashed to open the Class 2A Region five playoffs, and it was Pella Christian earning a sweep of Pleasantville 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 25-23) Wednesday night.

The Eagles came out firing to dominate set one, only for the Trojans to have two separate late leads of four in set two and five in set three, but Pella Christian rallied to take both in close fashion.

Pleasantville Coach Joel Allman says he was proud of how his girls responded after taking a lopsided loss in set one, but also acknowledged that an inability to finish sets two and three with wins were part of a difficult trend for the team this season.

Eagles Senior Ellie Brouwer says it was another night of adjustment after Sarah Gritters was a late scratch just before the match started, but she was happy with how they were able to push ahead and play solid volleyball.

The Eagles were led by 15 kills from Avey Amelse and two service aces from Larissa Pleima and Brouwer, who also had two blocks.

Pella Christian improves to 18-16 and advances to the regional semifinals Monday, when they take on No. 3 Dike New-Hartford at the Marshalltown Roundhouse. Pleasantville finishes at 9-13 and says farewell to four seniors.
