Twin Cedars Runner Rylee Dunkin is headed back to the State Cross Country Meet for the second time in as many years. Dunkin, a sophomore, earned All-State last year with a seventh place finish at the State Meet. Coach Trent Verwers tells KRLS Sports Dunkin’s development is due in large part to the improved physical education curriculum at Twin Cedars. Verwers says it is not just rolling a kick ball out anymore, it is weight training, cardio and other activities that have aided Dunkin being able to run at state.

Verwers:
“We’re in the weight room, doing cardio units and weight units. You ought to see Rylwee in the weight room, she’s an animal and can hang with some of the boys. It’s really impressive to see the work she’s putting in.”

Verwers adds, Dunkin put on around 15 pounds of muscle over the summer and it showed with softball and it will also be a benefit this winter during the basketball season. Dunkin will run Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in the class 1A State Cross Country Meet at Fort Dodge. Listen for updates from Fort Dodge, and listen for an interview with Dunkin on tonight’s Radio Sports Page on 92.1 KRLS at 6:00.
