The Twin Cedars Cross Country Season almost got permanently derailed before it started this year. The Sabers were forced to shut sports down for two weeks while the school went to full online learning during an outbreak of COVID-19 in August. While both football and volleyball were unable to practice as a team, the cross country runners decided to run on their own to get ready for the season. Coach Trent Verwers, who was unable to meet with the girls for the two weeks, tells KRLS Sports it shows how much the girls wanted to have a season and the leadership on the team.

Verwers:
“Just tells you the type of girls we had on the team. That first playing date we were going to a meet and we took it, and the girls knew they had to be ready and be in shape or they weren’t going to perform well. So it’s really nice to have those kind of girls and we’re really looking forward to having them back next year.”

After the quarantine, the Sabers went out and placed second against bigger schools in their first two meets with two girls in each meet placing in the top ten and several personal records set. Rylee Dunkin ended the season by earning a second straight All-State designation by finishing tenth at last week’s class 1A girls State Meet.
