District 40 State Senator Ken Rozenboom won a third term in office after Tuesday’s general election. Rozenboom received 21,977 votes, or 71.5%, in his district spanning the Pella area, all of Mahaska, Monroe, and Appanoose Counties, as well as the western half of Wapello County, and Democratic Challenger Lance Roorda received 8,741 votes, or 28.4%. Rozenboom says he’s thankful to be elected to another term and to continue the agenda of state Republicans, especially after the Senate maintained its majority and expanded power in the Iowa House.
“Of course I’m very appreciative of the voters in Senate District 40,” he says. “I have a fairly uneven district in terms of voter registration, but you don’t take anything for granted. To get over 70 percent of the vote, I believe, affirms to me that my views and my work match up and dovetail with Senate District 40.”
Rozenboom was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 2012 after serving on the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors.
