The American Rivers Conference Cross Country Championships were held Saturday at the Central Cross Country Course in Pella. On the women’s side, Wartburg was the team champion with 24 points. Simpson was sixth with 138 points, and Central was seventh with 180 points.

Individually, Central freshman Caroline McMartin, a Pella native, earned all-conference honors with a 15th place finish in a time of 23:57. She says she achieved her goal coming into the race, and credits the coaching staff for her success.

Simpson did not have any all-conference honors for the women’s team, but junior Cat Lucht was the top finisher, placing 16th with a time of 24:15.

On the men’s side, Wartburg scored 27 points for the team title. Simpson placed third with 85 points, while Central came in fifth with 118 points. The Storm had three all-conference honorees. Sophomore Spencer Moon placed fourth, senior Harry Dudley placed 10th, and sophomore Eric Baldus placed 12th.

Junior Will DeHaan was the top finisher for the Dutch, earning all-conference honors by placing 11th. He says it’s been a rollercoaster of a season, and surprised even himself with his performance.

The NCAA regional and national meets were cancelled this season, meaning this was the final race of the 2020 cross country season.
