It was supposed to be a down-to-the-wire game between two of the best teams in the country and two of the most tradition rich programs in Division III football history. It was the exact opposite, and it was oh-so-satisfying. In this week’s “KRLS Classic”, we’ll look back at a 37-7 Central whitewashing of St. John’s of Minnesota from November 24th, 2007 in the second round of the playoffs at Ron and Joyce Schipper Stadium.
The Johnnies had knocked the Dutch out of the 2006 playoffs 53 weeks earlier on the same field, 21-13. Both teams entered the 2007 contest with 11-0 records. It didn’t take long for Central to take control.
Central led 17-0 at the half and built a 37-0 lead before St. John’s avoided a shutout with a touchdown inside of three minutes left. The win moved the Dutch into the NCAA quarterfinals, which is the last time they’ve made it that deep into the playoffs.
Trevor Castle and Chad Klein were on the call that Saturday afternoon, and you can hear it all over again this Saturday afternoon at 1:00 on 92.1 KRLS.
