After qualifying an underclassman to the state meet for the second straight year, the Indianola boys cross country team is looking to build on their performances from a difficult 2020 to better compete in the future. Head coach Kevin Barnes tells KNIA Sports despite all the extra safety precautions and the pressures of COVID-19, the 2020 year actually saw more competitions with some good weather luck.
“A year ago we had only six meets with weather cancellations and other things going on, then we had COVID going on for this season yet we had 10 meets with no cancellations. So i’m hopeful when we get into the offseason we can continue to run and get together and be strong and make strides, pun intended, and that would lead to us having a track season. So we have to get better at cross country and most of these kids will be running track so hopefully we have that season to improve on.”
The Indians graduated two seniors from this year’s team.
