melcher-dallas-7

Melcher-Dallas finished with a record of 9-12 last season in girls’ basketball, but the team finishing tied for third was an encouraging sign for Coach Kelsey Goff, even with the competition getting tougher year-by-year.

The Saints finished behind Seymour and Lamoni while tying with Moulton-Udell and Moravia for third with a 6-4 conference record. Goff highlights the Warriors and Demons as two of the three toughest teams to face in the conference this season.

“We’re looking at Lamoni, they are always pretty tough,” Goff explained. “We only get that one shot at them. We play TC (Twin Cedars); they play us tough no matter how well they are doing, so always concentrating on that game. Seymour is another good team that we get a couple of cracks at; looking to beat them and see what we can do with them this year.”

Even though Twin Cedars finished with a 3-7 conference record and 5-18 overall, the rivalry between the two southern Marion County schools often tightens those matchups. However, with a roster of eight seniors and four of them returning as starters, a lot of familiarity with these conference foes can work in Melcher-Dallas’ favor.

The Saints open the winter season on Tuesday at home against Wayne, with varsity action beginning at 7:30 p.m.
