Four Tulip City football players have earned All-State recognition from the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
For the second consecutive season, Kody Huisman was a Class 3A honoree on the defensive line. Huisman earned first-team honors in 2019 and second-team recognition this past fall, racking up 10 tackles for loss and three sacks, and recovering two fumbles, including one for a touchdown.
After receiving 2nd team All-State recognition on the Class 1A defensive line last year, Mulder was a repeat recipient of the award in 2020. It was a record breaking fall for Luke, who broke the school record for sacks in a single season and in a career. Mulder led Class 1A in tackles for loss with 21 and was tied for 3rd in sacks at 7 ½.
Eagles Teammate Cody Boender was a 2nd team All-State linebacker selection in Class 1A. Boender’s 102 ½ total tackles ranked 4th among athletes in classes statewide this fall.
Pella’s Ryan Mace received special teams recognition on the 2020 3A All-State football team. Mace was a 3rd team selection as a punter, averaging 41.1 yards per punt on 38 attempts this fall. His 1,562 yards were 3rd best in 3A.
