It is no secret who the focal point is going to be for the Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad. Kieren Nichols returns as the not only as the leading scorer for Knoxville at 25.9 points per game, but he is the leading returning scorer in class 3A. Coach Jeff Larson tells KRLS Sports Nichols will also be the main focus of the opposition and hopes the other four guys on the court can step up and help in scoring. He says right now the competition for starting spots has been a close battle in practice.
Larson:
“We’ve got more competition and more spots available and I think the kids understand that they’re going to have to work harder if they want to play. Kieren is the focal point and he’s going to get into the lane and distribute the ball, and I think we’ll be better than we were last year.”
Larson says around 8-10 players are candidates for starting roles this season including sophomore Luke Keitges, and seniors Spencer Hixson, Mike Hudson, Keegan Cox and possibly a few freshmen are in that mix. The Panthers get their season started Tuesday night at PCM, a game you can hear live on 95.3 KNIA.
