After the PCM girl’s basketball team fell in their season opener to Chariton last Saturday by a single point, they dropped their home opener against Knoxville 39-32. Despite the gut wrenching close losses, the Mustangs are getting some solid production out of their key contributors. Seniors Lilli Baird and Riley Hjortshoj lead the team in points (10.5 PPG) and rebounds (7 RPG) respectively. Sophomore Paige Steenhoek is second in both categories.
As for what to expect the coming week, it’ll be an extra day for the boys to make their season debut as the double header against Saydel Monday has been canceled as the Eagles have opted to go to online learning until further notice. Tuesday’s boys only matchup is still on, a home matchup against Knoxville. That game can be heard on 95.3 KNIA, with tipoff at 7:30.
Both teams will be in action Thursday at Montezuma. Thursday marks the opening of wrestling season as the Mustangs will host an event starting at 6:00. Wrestling will also be in Carlise on Saturday starting at 10 am.
Between those wrestling contests, both basketball teams will go to Nevada on Friday for a double header that can be heard on the KRLS3 stream at kniakrls.com.
