As the Mustangs begin their Winter sports seasons, let’s take a look at the wrestling squad heading into the new decade.
When the boys began practice, some unfortunately had to start late as some of their athletes were on the football team. The deep playoff run, followed by a bit of rest following another great season, resulted in some not hitting the floor mats until last Monday or later.
Those include a duo of multiple time state qualifiers in Colby Tool and Landon Fenton. The former has medaled three times in his illustrious career. Fenton has come close, and looks poised to break through in his final year. Cooper Sloan, set to compete at 220 lbs., has qualified for districts in years past and has a solid chance of heading to Wells Fargo Arena.
Much like everyone else, safety during the pandemic is at the forefront. Head Coach Jeff Nicholson details what the school has done thus far, giving high praise to the top personnel of the district.
“We’re doing some extra cleaning. The biggest thing is keeping kids who have any symptoms out of the room and just airing on the side of caution. I think that’s probably the biggest thing. The school’s done a great job. Our new Superintendent [Michelle Havenstrite] has been awesome and benn able to keep our kids in school and learn face-to-face. Between her and our school board, those guys have done a ton. It’s been such a headache this year, but all they’ve done to keep our kids in school and doing what’s in the best interest of our kids is awesome and they should be commended for that.”
PCM will begin their season at home on Thursday. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS Radio and kniakrls.com for updates on all PCM athletics this Winter.
