The Knoxville Hospital and Clinics Foundation is still accepting donations for its emergency room project. Director of Foundation and Public Relations Kevin Stittsworth says that mental health visits are a growing issue, and is one of the main reasons the hospital is wanting to expand.

“Mental health visits account for about five to six percent of our total ER visits at Knoxville. The average wait for transfer of these patients has increased by about 31 percent to about 22 hours, which is an average of about five hours longer than normal. This renovation is going to be great for not only patient care, but also for our staff. It’s going to increase staff workspace and it’s going to enhance the workflow. We’re really excited about this, and are eager to fundraise for this so we can continue to have the best hospital for our community.”
