The winter sports season is officially underway, and all events are looking different than usual. While COVID-19 case counts are on the decline statewide, Knoxville Activities Director Ryan Paulsen reminds everyone that they play a part in allowing these activities to continue. He says it’s important to have these activities as part of students’ educational experience, and thanks all involved for their efforts.

“Our students are motivated to have sports and to have these seasons. For seniors, this is it, this is the last go-around, you only get one four-year window of your life to do this stuff. They’re motivated to do whatever we ask them to do to give ourselves the best chance for having seasons, and I just want to thank our coaches, kids, parents and community members for helping us do that so far.”

The two spectators per participant rule will continue through at least December 10th, and will be re-evaluated by administration at that time if the governor’s proclamation is allowed to expire. The first home basketball doubleheader of the season is next Tuesday evening, with wrestling taking to the gym floor on Saturday. As always, Knoxville varsity basketball games can be heard on 95.3 KNIA.
